Appointments

Clients requiring appointments late in the day may wait longer than those able to come in during the daytime because of the higher demand for those times. I will usually be able to see clients able to come in for appointments during the day within a week or two. Before scheduling an appointment I usually speak with people by telephone to answer any questions potential clients may have about me or my practice, and to gather sufficient information to ensure that I have the expertise to assist you with your difficulties. People typically see me once per week, but less frequently is common and occasionally more frequent appointments are desired. People sometimes just consult with me about a difficulty for one or two sessions, most engage in short-term work lasting 10-20 sessions, and some people with more longstanding difficulties or people who want to make more substantial gains in their personal growth engage in longer term therapy. My sessions are usually 55 minutes, but longer appointments are often valuable. Appointments can be arranged by referral (family physician, psychiatrist) or can be made with me directly.

I ask that you cancel appointments with me as soon as you are aware that you need to. If you cancel with 24 hours notice there is no fee. If you phone to cancel with less than 24 hours notice, half of the regular fee will be charged. If you do not phone to cancel I will assume that you are late for the appointment, wait for you throughout the appointment time, and the full fee will be charged.

Payment/Fees

My fee for all types of psychotherapy and counseling is $155. per hour. Clients continue to pay the rate in effect when they begin working with me, regardless of any future fee increases, even when returning to see me after an absence. Psychologist's fees are not covered by MSP (Medicare) but are completely or partially covered by most extended medical plans and are deductible as a medical expense on income taxes. The fees are also often covered under Employee Assistance Programs or Criminal Injury Compensation programs. I request payment by cheque or cash at the end of each appointment and I provide an official receipt with my Registration number, with which you can claim reimbursement or a medical expense.
